Bon Ton Bakery

Edmonton, AB

Imagine escaping war-torn Europe and starting a bakery with just $3,000. That's the incredible journey of Eugene "Gene" Edelmann, the founder of Edmonton's beloved Bon Ton Bakery.

This isn't just any bakery story; it's a testament to resilience, passion, and family. In 1956, after overcoming unimaginable horrors, Gene opened Bon Ton's doors with a simple dream: to bake the finest bread and pastries, using only the best ingredients and never taking shortcuts.

Soon, Edmontonians were lining up for Gene's rye breads, Danish pastries, and those oh-so-addictive bagels he introduced to the city. Bon Ton grew, moving to its current location in Jasper Place in 1959.

The legacy didn't stop with Gene. In 1998, the bakery passed to Hilton and Michelle Dinner, who shared Gene's passion for quality and innovation. They expanded the menu, focusing on healthier options and sourcing the best ingredients they could find.

Then came Gerry Semler, joining the team in 2006 and eventually becoming a partner in 2015. His dedication to people and quality ensured Bon Ton remained a cherished part of the Edmonton community.

Today, with Gerry's brother Edgar on board, the Semler brothers carry on the torch as the third family to manage this landmark bakery. They've balanced tradition with modern trends, offering exciting new products while staying true to Gene's original vision.

Stepping into Bon Ton Bakery is like stepping back in time, with a warm atmosphere and the enticing aroma of freshly baked goods. But it's more than that. It's a story of perseverance, family, and a commitment to crafting exceptional food that Edmontonians have cherished for generations.

Come visit us and experience the Bon Ton legacy for yourself. We promise it's more than just hot cakes. It's a taste of Edmonton's heart.
